Airliner Waste Triturator
Design and construction administration for airliner waste triturator at Nashville International AirportMetro Nashville Airport Authority asked CIA to improve its airliner waste disposal process. CIA designed a new automated and closed system to replace the existing manual and open system. The new system drains the contents of the lavatory vehicles into the sewer system with minimal odors or risk of spills.
The new system consists of a quick-connect hose, a triturator (grinder), a potable water flush system, and a connection to the sewer system. CIA designed the new system as well as developed operator procedures. The design included retrofitting the various lavatory vehicles with quick connects and an electric eye-operated switch to turn on the automated system. The triturator and water flush system start automatically when the lavatory vehicle enters the facility and turns off when the vehicle exits.
Project included demolishing the existing system. CIA coordinated with MNAA’s Planning, Design and Construction department as well as Maintenance.
