Split Log Road Water Line Relocation

Multi jurisdictional project involving the City of Brentwood and the Nolensville/College Grove Utility District.

CIA Engineers provided design, construction documents, and construction administration and oversight to relocate an 8-inch diameter water line and associated hydrants and valves during a highway widening project. The existing water line was located in the creek bed, and the original plan included suspending the water line from the existing bridge using hangers.

CIA Engineers’ design, in coordination with the bridge engineer, optimized the design to increase the lifespan of the water line, reduce long-term maintenance requirements, and simplify future maintenance and repair procedures by constructing a concrete shelf to support the water line along the bridge instead of utilizing traditional suspension methods.

The project had added complexity in that the water line is owned by the Nolensville/College Grove Utility District (NCGUD), but is located within Brentwood’s city limits. CIA Engineers’ design work was completed in accordance with the requirements of the NCGUD, but was funded by the City of Brentwood as part of its road widening project. The project was inspected by both the City of Brentwood water department and the NCGUD.
